Imagens que valem por Mil Palavras - Projeto de Valorização da Imagoteca Municipal de Aveiro

Abstract

A Imagoteca Municipal de Aveiro reúne um conjunto assinalável de imagens da cidade, desde a segunda metade do século XIX até à atualidade, constituindo um acervo com um enorme potencial não só pela beleza pictórica das imagens e que justificariam, por si só, uma estratégia consistente de divulgação junto do público, mas também como importante fonte documental para o estudo e o conhecimento histórico. Neste perspetiva, o presente trabalho de investigação tem como objetivo principal apresentar um projeto de valorização para a Imagoteca Municipal, um serviço integrado na Divisão de Cultura e Turimo, da Câmara Municipal de Aveiro, que promova uma organização dos fundos e coleções que tem à sua guarda e, consequentemente, uma melhoria do serviço público prestado. À elaboração deste projeto de intervenção, antecedeu-se um trabalho de levantamento de espólios fotográficos de modo a avaliar o espaço de representatividade deste tipo de coleções na cidade e, assim, refletir sobre as potencialidades a médio/ longo prazo de um projeto como a imagoteca municipal, enquanto arquivo público de imagens. Simultaneamente e de modo a aproveitar a experiência e as boas práticas de instituições que têm à sua guarda arquivos fotográficos, foi realizada uma visita técnica a quatro instituições que têm já definidas estratégias de tratamento, organização, valorização e divulgação destes acervos. O projeto de valorização apresentado procura estar alinhado com os novos modelos de gestão do património enquadrando-se nos conceitos teóricos de novo património cultural e de nova museologia.

The Municipal Imagery of Aveiro brings together a remarkable set of images of the city, from the second half of the nineteenth century to the present, constituting a collection with an enormous potential not only for the pictorial beauty of the images and that would justify, by itself, a consistent strategy of publicity to the public, but also as an important documentary source for study and historical knowledge. In this perspective,the main objective of this work is to present a valuation project for the Municipal Imagery,integrated in the service of culture and tourim,of the Municipality of Aveiro, which promotes an organization of the funds and collections that it has in its keep and, consequently, an improvement of public service rendered. The preparation of this project was preceded by a survey of photographic collections in order to evaluate the representativeness of this type of collections in the city and, consequently, reflect on the medium / long term potentialities of a project such as the Municipal Imagery, as a public archive of images of the city. Simultaneously, and in order to take advantage of the experience and good practices of institutions that hold photographic archives, a technical visit was made to four institutions that have already defined strategies for the treatment, organization, valuation and dissemination of these collections. The valorization project presented intends to be aligned with the new models of heritage management, based on the theoretical concepts of new cultural heritage and new museology.
