Almanaque (1959-1961): Jornalismo e Cultura num País em Mudança

Abstract

Considerando que a história contemporânea é indissociável das páginas da imprensa que ao longo da mesma foram dando notícia de tudo o que pautava a atualidade de então, através do cruzamento entre o jornalismo e a história, numa metodologia interdisciplinar, a presente investigação pretende contribuir para o estudo dos anos 60, das suas circunstâncias e mudanças culturais, bem como demonstrar a importância deste período para a evolução do jornalismo em Portugal. Para tal, recorre-se ao confronto entre o enquadramento teórico e a análise do principal objeto de estudo que motivou a escrita desta dissertação: a revista Almanaque (1959-1961).Num primeiro momento apresenta-se um estado da arte, que se deseja crítico, do jornalismo cultural ao New Journalism e da cultura de regime à cultura de oposição ao Estado Novo, articulando o contexto do exercício do jornalismo ao clima de repressão e censura que pautava o contexto político de então. No seguimento, parte-se para a apresentação e análise da revista Almanaque, procurando-se demonstrar como esta funcionou como um exemplo invulgar, à época, e como um sintoma de mudança. Assim sendo, fazendo ponte com a revisão bibliográfica, far-se-á uma análise pormenorizada e comparada de algumas secções, artigos e temáticas da revista. Pretende-se tornar claro o destaque conferido pela Almanaque à crescente afirmação da juventude e às ruturas geracionais, à importância da música como fator de afirmação da cultura juvenil nos anos 60, bem como destacar o papel inovador que a revista deteve no processo de abertura ao exterior por alimentar e fomentar um imaginário além-fronteiras.

Considering that the contemporary history is inseparable from the pages of the press which throughout were reporting everything that was relevant on those days, through the crossing of journalism and history, using an interdisciplinary methodology, the present investigation aims to contribute to the study of the 60’s, of its circumstances and cultural changes, as well as to demonstrate the importance of this period to the evolution of journalism in Portugal. To do so, it resorts to confrontation between the theoretical framework and the analysis of the main object of study that motivated the writing of this dissertation: the Almanaque magazine (1959-1961). In a first instance it is presented a state of the art, that should be a critique, from cultural journalism to New Journalism and from regime culture to opposition culture to the Estado Novo, connecting the context of the practise of journalism to the repression atmosphere and censure that characterized the then political context. Following, it moves on to the presentation and analysis of the Almanaque magazine, striving to demonstrate how it functioned as a peculiar example, for its time, and as a change symptom. Thenceforth, making a connection with the bibliographical revision, a detailed and comparing analysis will be made of some sections, articles and thematic of the magazine. This intends to make clear the emphasis given by Almanaque to the ever-growing uprising of youth and generational ruptures, to the importance of music as a affirmation factor of the juvenile culture in the 60´s, as well as emphasize the innovating role that the magazine had in the process of opening the country by feeding and encouraging a beyond borders imaginary.
