dc.description.abstract | The purpose of this paper was to do a systematic review of the literature and meta-analysis about the prevalence of complications and clinical parameters variation after regenerative treatment of peri-implantitis.Materials and methods: An electronic search was conducted in the PubMed, Cochrane Library, EBSCO and EMBASE databases for studies published since 1993. Randomized controlled trials (RCTs), controlled clinical trials (CCT), reporting complications and/or clinical data (Probing depth and/or bleading on probing) and/or Radiographic data (variation of bone level after regenerative surgical treatment), published in English, Portuguese or Spanish, with a minimum follow-up of 6 months were included according to the PRISMA statement guidelines.Statistic analysis was performed using the platform R v3.3.2, with the package ‘metafor’ ( Viechtbauer, 2010).Results: The initial search resulted in 127 articles, of which after screening and eligibility evaluation, 13 articles were included in this review. The meta-analysis of these studies revealed a prevalence of complications of 0.21 (95% [CI] = 0.07 to 0.36), a mean reduction in probing depth of 2.38mm (95% [CI] = 2.06 to 2.70mm ), A mean reduction of bleeding on probing (BOP) of 0.45 (95% [CI] = 0.37 to 0.52) and a mean radiographic bone level variation of 1.49mm (95% [CI] = 0.80 to 2.19 mm). Conclusions: The prevelance of the occurrence of complications after regenerative treatment of peri-implantitis is 0.21. It was found a statistically significant improvement of the clinical parameters. Further well designed randomized clinical trials with longer follow ups, investigating the prevalence of the occurrence of complications after regenerative treatment of peri-implantitis are needed. | eng |
