As terras de Figueiró na Idade Média

Abstract

Esta dissertação centra-se na história do concelho de Figueiró dos Vinhos durante a Idade Média, através dos documentos disponíveis, de uma reflexão sobre aquilo que já se sabe acerca da terra e dos problemas existentes ligados à investigação da história do concelho nessa época.A introdução procura enquadrar o concelho de Figueiró geograficamente, através da sua longa história de inserção.A primeira parte faz uma abordagem da pré-história até a época romana pela presença de vestígios, os quais, apesar de poucos, demonstram a antiguidade da terra.A segunda parte trata dos vários momentos posteriores, isto é, épocas bárbara e muçulmana, e mostra a fragilidade da quantidade de vestígios conhecidos até hoje. Assim, centrámo-nos no âmbito da toponímia, nos estudos dos diversos autores, mas igualmente no plano religioso.A terceira parte aborda outros momentos que já se reportam ao reino de Portugal e que demonstram outra faceta de Figueiró: a sua presença na documentação.Diga-se, porém, que, em tudo, este concelho revela uma história comum, inicialmente, evoluindo para panoramas diferentes, através dos seus centros mais importantes da época, a notar, Figueiró, Arega, Almofala e Aguda.A quarta parte remete para a análise dos primeiros forais de localidades do actual concelho (Arega, Figueiró, Almofala) nos quais se percebe uma grande semelhança entre os dois primeiros, escritos por Pedro Afonso, e uma notável diferença com o de Almofala concedido por Martim Anes, já uns vinte anos mais tarde. Todos espelham alguns traços da sociedade da época como, por exemplo, as regras a respeitar pelos habitantes, as interdições sujeitas a sanções, financeiras ou de outra natureza (castigo corporal), e as taxas que eles eram obrigados a pagar. Este último capítulo encerra o trabalho fazendo um retrato da sociedade medieval do início do século XIII no concelho de Figueiró.

The purpose of this dissertation is the brief history of Figueiró dos Vinhos during the Middle Ages, through available sources, a brief reflection of what we already know about this land and the problems we faced on the investigation of this period.The introduction tries to narrow down the county of Figueiró geographically, through its long history.First part approaches the pre-history until Romain period and the presence of elements that provides us the antiquity of the land, although they are few.Second part treats later moments, in other words, the Barbarian and Muslim period, showing lack of sources, known today. Therefore, we focused on the toponymic and religious features, and studies of several authors.The third part is about the reported documentation and history of the kingdom of Portugal that show us another point of view about Figueiró.But also reveals, at the beginning, a mutual relationship in history, and later on, differences in reality, throughout the most important places of the period, Figueiró, Arega, Almofala and Aguda.Fourth part analyzes the first "forals" of the places of the present county (Arega, Figueiró, Almofala) in which exists an important similarity between the first two, written by Pedro Afonso, and remarkable differences with the "foral" of Almofala, granted by Martim Anes, twenty years later. All the "forals" show us the reality of that time, society for example, rules to be respected by the population, interdictions subject to sanctions, financial or corporal punishments, fees required to pay and so on. The last chapter closes with a representation of the medieval society of the beginning of the 13th century, in the county of Figueiró.
