O Tempo de Habitar. Três experiências evolutivas

Abstract

A presente dissertação tem por objetivo estudar a temática da Habitação Evolutiva e fazer uma análise de três experiências que contemplam a cidade, a habitação e o indivíduo. Em Portugal, o princípio evolutivo decorreu da crise habitacional dos anos 50 e 60. O Colóquio sobre Política de Habitação de 1969, propôs um programa baseado em sistemas de construção simples que permitia a evolução da habitação a par e passo com a evolução dos seus habitantes. De forma subsequente, o preceito dicotómico onde o arquiteto era responsável pelo processo de construir e o indivíduo pelo processo de habitar, dissolveu-se na prática da habitação evolutiva e deu origem a um processo que incluiu o indivíduo na construção da cidade e da habitação. Deste modo, pretende-se elaborar uma análise crítica de três experiências habitacionais, que têm na relação espaço-tempo, entre a génese e a contemporaneidade, a amplitude necessária para indagar sobre a metamorfose dos processos de construir e habitar. Num primeiro momento, ocupamo-nos de estudar a cidade enquanto organismo evolutivo para seguidamente focarmos a análise na experiência do módulo habitacional. A singularidade que cada um dos três casos adquire na apropriação e evolução do espaço de habitar, resulta simultaneamente da evolução tipológica planeada pelo arquiteto e da especificidade de ocupação do indivíduo. Neste sentido procurou-se compreender comparativamente, e de forma descomprometida com os funcionalismos arquitetónicos, as relações entre o pensamento do homem que organiza e a experiência do homem que habita.

This dissertation aims to study the theme of housing evolution and analyse three experiences featuring the city, the house and the individual. In Portugal, the evolutionary principle started with the housing crisis of the ‘50s and ‘60s. The Colóquio sobre Política de Habitação of 1969 proposed a program based on simple construction systems that allowed the evolution of the house alongside the evolution of the individuals. Furthermore, the dichotomous perception in which the architect was responsible for the construction process and the individual was responsible for the inhabiting process dissolved itself in the practice of housing evolution and gave rise to a process that included the individual in the construction of the city and the house. In this way, we intend to elaborate a critical analysis of three housing experiences that assumes, in the space-time relation between genesis and contemporaneity, the necessity of questioning the metamorphosis of the construction and housing processes. At first we study the city as an evolving organism and then we focus the analysis on the experience of an inhabiting module.The singularity gained by each of the three cases through the appropriation and evolution of the house space results simultaneously from the typological evolution planned by the architect and the specific occupancy by the individual. For this purpose, we seek to understand, comparatively and unattached to architectural functionalism, the relationships between the thoughts of the man who organizes and the experience of the man who inhabits.
