O objetivo da dissertação visa perceber de que forma as habitações foram transformadas, para compreender quais os elementos permanentes e essenciais na habitação e como é que o desenho da habitação pode ser pensado pelo arquiteto a partir das diversas transformações observadas. A curiosidade e o interesse por este tema surgiu após a realização de um workshop de dois meses na Vastu Shilpa Foundation, em Ahmedabad, no âmbito do programa Erasmus+. Os cheiros, sabores, a organização caótica das cidades e a modo de vida indiano, fascinaram-me desde o primeiro dia e foi este o motor para a realização desta dissertação.Para aprofundar o conhecimento acerca deste tema foi realizada uma segunda Viagem de dois meses à cidade de Ahmedabad, com o intuito de realizar uma observação e análise in loco dos casos de estudo. A habitação tradicional de Ahmedabad e dois projetos de habitação coletiva do Arq. Balkrishna Doshi foram os casos de estudo escolhidos para esta investigação.Após uma análise dos casos de estudo foi possível entender o processo de transformação da habitação, retirando assim alguns ensinamentos importantes relativos ao método de projeto de uma habitação neste tipo de contexto.A dissertação aqui presente pretende abordar o tema da habitação na cidade de Ahmedabad, Índia, e a metamorfose a que esta foi submetida ao longo do tempo. The present dissertation intends to focus on the dwelling in Ahmedabad, India, and subsequent metamorphosis that occurs along the years. The main goal is to comprehend how the houses were transformed, in order to understand which elements are permanent and essential in the dwelling and how the architect according to the diverse transformations observed can think the design of the dwelling.The curiosity and interest in this subject emerged after a two-month workshop at the Vastu Shilpa Foundation, Ahmedabad, under the Erasmus+ program. The smells, flavors, the chaotic organization of the cities and the way of Indian life fascinated me from the first day and this was the engine for this investigation.In order to deepen the knowledge about this subject, the second two-month journey to the city of Ahmedabad was carried out, in order to do an on-site observation and analysis of the case studies. The traditional housing of Ahmedabad and two projects of collective housing by the architect Balkrishna Doshi have been selected as case studies. After an analysis of the case studies it was possible to understand the transformation process of a house, identifying some important lessons regarding the design process of a house in this context.The present dissertation intends to focus on the dwelling in Ahmedabad, India, and subsequent metamorphosis that occurs along the years.
