ecocardiografia convencional. A imagem de deformação miocárdica (2DSE) foi
desenvolvida para quantificar objetivamente a função miocárdica regional. Inicialmente
vindo a ganhar força.
avaliação da função ventricular direita e discutir as suas potenciais aplicações futuras The central role of the right ventricle in several physiological and pathological conditions has only been recognized in the past two decades. The current gold standard for the non-invasive assessment of right ventricular function is cardiac magnetic resonance. However, for practical reasons, echocardiography is still more widely used. Due to the complex anatomy and the retrosternal placement of the right ventricle, its echocardiographic assessment has been predominantly of a qualitative nature. Recent technological advances managed to overcome some of these limitations, namely the development of parameters such as RVFAC, TAPSE, S’, and RIMP. The recent introduction of real-time three-dimensional echocardiography (3DE) allowed the measurement of right ventricular volumes and RVEF, which are difficult to obtain through conventional echocardiography. Myocardial deformation imaging (2DSE) was developed to objectively quantify the regional myocardial function. Initially considered a mere research tool, its adoption in clinical practice has been increasing. This thesis aims to review the current state of echocardiographic methods in determining right ventricular function, and discuss their potential future applications |
