Abstract: Este artigo trata da diversidade epistemológica do mundo.
This article deals with the world's epistemological diversity. It shows the historical roots of its denial, as well as the long and contro - versial transformation process of science into the only valid kind of knowledge, being, so forth, hegemonic. It focuses certain issues which the subject brings up, among them, the feminist critic and the plurality of ways of knowing, pointing biodiversity as an area of controversy. It also formulates hypothesis about the world`s epistemological diversity at the same time as it debates the transition from the scientific know ledge monoculture to the wisdoms ecology, as a way to make the replacement of regulation-knowledge by emancipation-knowledge possi ble. The text was originally published as introduction to the volume 5 of the Reinventing social emancipation (Reinventar a emancipação social) collection, coordinated by Boaventura de Souza Santos, called Seeding other Solutions: the ways of biodiversity and the rival knowledges (Semear Outras Soluções: os caminhos da biodiversidade e dos conhecimentos rivais), and chosen by the author as the basis text for the Opening Class of the Post Graduation Program of Universidade do Estado do Amazonas, held in Manaus, on August, 2007.
