Abstract: Television has been, since its inception, a main source of entertainment and information. The advances in other technologies are putting the television’s position as an information and entertainment source at stake. Despite the advances in other technologies, such as the personal computer and the mobile phone, the TV set is still the more ubiquitous screen in the world, this fact makes the television an extremelyimportant market. The main flaws of television when compared with the computer and the mobile phone are the lack of strong interactivity between the user and the service provided an also the fact, that for most cases, it still lacks Internet connectivity. The better way to enrich the value of television is to upgrade the user experience by allowing more interactivity for the user and by opening up a channel between the TV and the Internet.Opinions differ, but some argue that there is no place for the Internet on a TV set, that the two concepts are not miscible. This project intends to prove that there is room for the Internet on a TV set, although it may not be a completely open one.Creating connections between the different viewers, the content on television and the social networks, carries the hope of turning “Watching TV into a social event, like it was before, when there was only a TV set for household or when only the neighbour had a TV set.It is by developing applications that will open these doorsto the Internet, to give users what they really need when watching TV, that the television can be revolutionized.
