Vida e Obra do Pintor Cruz Louro

Abstract

Francisco da Cruz Louro nasce, em 1903, no Baixo Alentejo. Formado em Belas Artes pela Escola Superior de Belas Artes do Porto, foi professor de Desenho e Trabalhos Manuais do Ensino Técnico e Liceal. Viveu e leccionou em Portugal, Índia, e Moçambique. Para se completar, Cruz Louro, nas suas horas vagas, pintava. Não para seguir as correntes artísticas, mas para documentar, para a História, aquilo que via e por onde passava. Infelizmente, o espólio deste artista não tem sido divulgado de forma adequada. Esta tese de mestrado surgiu com o intuito de colmatar tal lacuna. Os conhecimentos obtidos ao longo do curso de Design e Multimédia apresentaram-se como valiosas ferramentas na criação de um projecto de divulgação da vida e obra deste artista. O ponto de partida foi o estudo do Estado da Arte das diferentes áreas que foram exploradas, bem como o trabalho de arquivo sobre a vida do artista, para que se percebesse o seu percurso, aquilo que o caracteriza e define. O produto final desta dissertação de mestrado consiste, então, num projecto de divulgação composto em múltiplas vertentes - o trabalho de arquivo, a organização de uma exposição, a criação de uma fonte tipográfica baseada na escrita do pintor, o desenvolvimento um sistema de identidade e de uma página web. Todas estas componentes foram trabalhadas de forma a dar a conhecer a vida e obra do pintor Cruz Louro, e este documento explica cuidadosamente a evolução e o processo deste projeto. PALAVRAS CHAVE

In the year of 1903, Francisco da Cruz Louro was born in the portuguese region of Baixo Alentejo. He graduated from the College of Fine Arts of Porto, majoring in Fine Arts. He also taught Drawing and Crafts to secondary school students. He lived and taught in Portugal, India, and Mozambique. Cruz Louro spent most of his free time painting, not trying to follow a particular artistic movement, but rather trying to fulfill himself and to record the things he saw and the places he visited. Unfortunately, the work of this artist has yet to be properly uncovered. This master’s thesis arised with the purpose of amending that flaw. The knowledge obtained throughout the course of Design & Multimedia proved to be a valuable tool in the breeding of this project, meant to divulge the life and work of this artist. The starting point was a study of the State of the Art on the different explored areas, paired with the archive work about the artist’s life, in order to understand his path, what characterizes and defines him. The final products of this master’s dissertation are, therefore, all the different aspects of this divulgation project – the archive work, the organization of an exhibit, the creation of a typeface based on the painter’s handwriting, the developing of an identity system and of a webpage. All of these elements were brought together to unveil the life and work of the painter Cruz Louro, and this paper carefully explains the evolution of this project.
