Confiança interpessoal e empatia durante a adolescência: estudo exploratório

Abstract

No âmbito da investigação atual, a confiança interpessoal e a empatia têm-se destacado como variáveis significativas na formação e manutenção das relações interpessoais, consideradas fundamentais para o funcionamento da sociedade. Partindo de uma revisão da literatura sobre a Confiança Interpessoal e a Empatia, o presente estudo centra-se na análise da relação entre as crenças de Confiança Interpessoal e a Empatia durante a adolescência. A amostra utilizada é constituída por 157 sujeitos com idades compreendidas entre os 12 e os 16 anos, a frequentar o 3º ciclo de duas escolas públicas dos distritos de Coimbra e Beja. Para analisar a relação entre as variáveis em estudo, foi utilizada a adaptação portuguesa da escala Crenças Generalizadas de Confiança – Adolescência Tardia – CGC-A (Vale- Dias & Franco-Borges, 2014), e a adaptação portuguesa da Escala Empatia Básica – BES (Nobre-Lima, Rijo, & Matias, 2011). Utilizou-se também um questionário sociobiográfico elaborado de acordo com os propósitos da investigação e características da amostra a partir da adaptação portuguesa do Formulário de Dados Pessoais de Rohner (2008). Os resultados obtidos revelaram uma associação positiva e significativa entre as crenças de Confiança nos Professores e os níveis totais de Empatia. Verificaram-se também diferenças significativas em função do género nos níveis totais de Confiança Interpessoal e nos níveis de Confiança nos Professores e nos Pares. Em relação à Empatia, também foi possível observar diferenças entre género, quer ao nível do resultado global, como nas subescalas de Empatia Cognitiva e Empatia Afetiva. Em todas estas variáveis, as raparigas obtiveram resultados mais elevados do que os rapazes. Verificou-se igualmente uma associação positiva e significativa entre a base da Confiança Interpessoal Honestidade e a Empatia Cognitiva.

In the context of the current research, interpersonal trust and empathy have emerged as significant variables in the formation and maintenance of interpersonal relationships, which are considered essential for the functioning of the society. This investigation purpose is the study of the relationship between the Interpersonal Trust and Empathy during adolescence. The sample covered 157 subjects, aged between 12 and 16 years old, attending middle school in two public schools of Coimbra e Beja. In way to achieve this investigation results, it was used the Generalized Trust Beliefs-Late Adolescents – GTB-LA (Randall, Rotenberg, Totenhagen, Rock, & Harmon, 2010; Portuguese adaption, Vale-Dias & Franco-Borges, 2014), the Basic Empathy Scale (Jolliffe, 2005; Portuguese adaption, Nobre Lima, Rijo, & Matias, 2011) and also a questionnaire based in the model of Personal Data Form of Rohner (2008), according to the aim of this research as well as the specific characteristics of the sample. The results revealed a positive and significative association between Trust in Teachers and Empathy levels. They also disclose significative differences between gender in the Interpersonal Trust Beliefs, in the Trust in Teachers and in the Trust in Peers. In addition, this research also verified differences between gender in Empathy levels and on both Cognitive and Affective Empathy. We have concluded that girls scored higher levels than boys in all of these variables. It was also obtained a positive and significative association between Honesty and Cognitive Empathy.
