Actualmente, a paisagem é dominada
e o emparcelamento do território.
as diferentes realidades geográficas do lugar.
programa do Parque Verde.
The Alcoa river is located in a in a very rich and diversified territory transformed by many natural or human-induced factors through the centuries. These metamorphosis were more intense on the part of the river located on the urban zone of Alcobaça city until the mouth of it. Nowadays the agricultural lands dominate the landscape. However once when the Pederneira Lagoon existed in these areas it looked just like if the sea (of Nazaré) “asked for permission’’ to enter these lands forming the precious lagoon. Such good conditions created by this river seemed attractive for the Human kind to settle there and leaving a legacy of architectural signs from the Roman times. In the 12th century, after the Couto of Alcobaça was donated to the Cistercian Order, the landscape of this area faces the most important impacts by the Human kind with the implementation of concrete measures related to the farming systems to adopt. Some new actions are taken just like clearing lands, building farms, then the first hydraulic power supplies are made and also the land consolidations. The effects of these actions caused the speed up of the silting process which lately would cause its extinction. Other new changes occurred in this landscape with the end of the masculine religious orders in Portugal. The hydraulic supply works were kept, new and bigger routes are built, the industrial activity is developed and the first structures associated to tourism showed up. The project which target is a part of the river Alcoa located near the old lagoon territory would have the objective of valuing the landscape, stablishing a relation between the old area and the city of Alcobaça. It would be also be divided by three connected but distinct parts according to each of the different geographic areas. A bicycle path would be created in the floodplain associated to other alternative paths to introduce/empower new activities connected to other kinds of leisure allowing the explorations of important aspects and places of this territory. Also concerning to the river, there is also the Green park program which makes the transition through the valley between the urban zone of Alcobaça city and the area where the agricultural lands begin: the V-shaped valley. The design of the park will take advantage of the valley’s nature richness and also the industrial parks like the old COFTA, allowing exploring new trails discover new places. And finally there is also the intention of redesigning the city entrance by dignifying what was the main connection to the sea. |
