A magia da leitura

Abstract

A magia da leitura tem sido esquecida pelos jovens, pois as tecnologias do mundo moderno fizeram com que estes se desinteressassem dos livros, empobrecendo-lhes o saber. Sem leitura, a aprendizagem do ser humano fica comprometida, empobrece o seu vocabulário, diminui os seus conhecimentos e reduz a capacidade de raciocínio e interpretação. A leitura permite-nos descobrir o mundo, distigue-nos dos animais irracionais e desenvolve a nossa criatividade. É importante fomentar o gosto pela leitura desde cedo para que a criança perceba a sua importância e a riqueza cultural que retira dos livros. Partindo da preocupação pela desmotivação dos jovens pela leitura este estudo tem como objetivo perceber se as crianças que leem mais livros têm melhores capacidades leitoras, ou seja, se aqueles que reconhecessem mais títulos de livros de uma lista retirada do Plano Nacional de Leitura terão melhores desempenhos num teste de leitura. Começamos por fazer uma revisão da literatura relativa à definição de leitura, aos objetivos e à importância de ler. Abordamos as competências que a criança deve desenvolver para aprender a ler, a importância dos ambientes de aprendizagem e alguns métodos de iniciação. Na segunda parte apresentamos o estudo empírico. A amostra do estudo é constituída por 124 crianças, alunos do 3º e 4º anos, de escolas do concelho da Figueira da Foz. Os dados foram recolhidos através de um questionário construído por nós e por um teste de leitura – Teste de Idade de Leitura (TIL). Apresentam-se os procedimentos, os instrumentos e os resultados, a que se segue uma discussão dos mesmos. Por último são retiradas algumas conclusões.

The magic of reading has been forgotten by the youngsters because the technologies of the modern world have made them lose interest in books, making their knowledge poorer. Without reading, the learning of the human being is compromised, the vocabulary becomes poorer, the knowledge decreases, the ability to reason and interpret is reduced. Reading allows us to discover the world, makes us different from the animals and develops our creativity. It is important to encourage the taste for reading since the early days, so that the child can understand its importance and the cultural richness he/she can take from books. Starting from the worry for the lack of interest that the youngsters show for reading, this study intends to understand if the children that read more books, have a better reading capacity, i.e., if those who recognize more book titles from a list taken from the National Reading Plan, will have a better performance in a reading test. We will start by revising the literature related to the definition of reading, its objectives and the importance of reading. We will approach the skills that the child should develop to learn how to read, the importance of the learning environment, and some initiation methods. On the second half, we will present the empiric study. The sample of this study is composed by 124 children, students of the 3rd and 4th grades, from schools belonging to the municipality of Figueira da Foz. The data was collected through a questionnaire made by us, and a reading test (reading age test). We will show the procedures, the instruments and the results, followed by the consequent discussion. Finally, we will present some conclusions.
