dc.description.abstract | The present study pretends to study the reading patterns of pseudo-words with the grapheme <x>, which can be represented by four distinct phonic values. The relation between the grapheme <x> and the respective phonic values depends, in the majority of cases, on the context of the occurrence of <x> in the word (Martins e Festes, 2012). Through the utilization of the Dual Route Model, which considers the existence of two distinct ways of reading – the phonologic way and the lexical way – we intend to compare the performance between experienced readers and those readers who are in an initial phase of learning how to read pseudo-words with the grapheme <x>. The sample is divided in three groups: 30 subjects in the 2nd year of schooling, 30 subjects in the 5th year of schooling and 30 subjects with higher education. The results did not confirm that the subjects resort to the use of the contextual information in the attribution of values to <x> while reading pseudo-words. | por |
