dc.description.abstract | The Attachment is one of the inherent factors of the human development, which begins in childhood and extends through the vital cycle. The emotion regulation represents a fundamental ability for the social interaction, influencing the emotional behaviour and expression. It is expected that the attachment quality is related to the use of emotional regulation strategies. Therefore, we aimed to verify the influence of parental attachment on the use of emotional regulation strategies in adolescents. In the current study two questionnaires have been used, the Inventory of Parents Attachment IPPA- R (Machado & Figueiredo, 2008) and Regulation of Emotion Questionnaire 2- REQ- 2 (Machado & Pardal, 2012) in a sample constituted of 185 adolescents (58,9% girls and 41,1% boys) with ages between 12 to 15 years (M=13.00; DP=0.808). Correlational studies have been carried out and it was verified that superior values of secure attachment (Communication and Proximity and Mutual Trust and Comprehension) are related to a major functional strategies use, while superior values of insecure attachment (Estrangement and Rejection) are related to adoption of emotional regulation dysfunctional strategies. Girls have higher scores than boys in Estrangement and Rejection and there are no significant differences regarding the age. The genre and age influence on the use of emotional regulation strategies suggests that girls and older adolescents use more dysfunctional strategies of emotional regulation. Finally, the prediction relations analysis evidences significant results indicating that insecure attachment is predictive regarding the use of dysfunctional strategies in adolescents. | por |
