Retórica da alteridade : Portugal e os portugueses na historiografia brasileira

Abstract

A presente investigação tem como principal objetivo evidenciar o discurso dos historiadores brasileiros a respeito de Portugal e dos portugueses, no contexto da formação da sociedade brasileira, quando a presença portuguesa na América deu ensejo à constituição de variadas representações. A retórica da alteridade que buscamos identificar tomou como lastro as formas de identidade que os historiadores estabeleceram para o Brasil, fazendo de Portugal e seu povo importante ponto de inflexão nessa construção. As noções de Irmandade e Ambiguidade serviram como baliza para analisar as narrativas históricas, em suas diversas perspectivas, circunscritas à primeira centúria após a Independência, o que nos permitiu analisar os modos com que aqueles historiadores referenciavam os portugueses, no tempo real, daqueles existentes no tempo histórico, cristalizados nas fontes por eles utilizadas. No sentido de dar inteligibilidade aos diversos contextos aqui abordados, no qual estavam inseridos os historiadores elegidos, optamos por estruturar o presente texto em três distintos tempos, determinantes para compreensão das mudanças efetivadas na sociedade brasileira em sua formação.

This research has as main objective to highlight the speech of Brazilian historians about Portugal and the Portuguese, in the context of the formation of Brazilian society, when the Portuguese presence in America gave rise to the formation of various representations. The rhetoric of alterity that we seek to identify, took as ballast the identity forms that historians settled for Brazil, making of Portugal and its people an important point of inflection in this construction. The notions of brotherhood and ambiguity served as goal to analyze the historical narratives, in their diverse perspectives, circumscribed to the first century after independence, which allowed us to analyze the modes with which those historians referred the Portuguese, in real time, of those existing in historical time, crystallized in the sources they used. In order to give intelligibility to diverse contexts discussed here, in which selected historians were inserted, we chose to structure the present text in three distinct times, crucial for understanding the changes that take effect in Brazilian society in its formation.
