O associativismo urbano : o caso da cidade de Coimbra

Abstract

O Associativismo é motor de progresso numa sociedade, e penso que muito mal procederá o poder político que o ignore, que não o incentive, que não o proteja. A meu ver as associações são certamente um símbolo de vida, de construção e de esperança, e o trabalho voluntário e benfeitor é estruturante da economia social, levando a uma efectiva cidadania. As associações são tão velhas como o homem e é seguramente por isso que chamamos ao homem de animal social, o Homem tem a necessidade vital de se relacionar com o outro, de criar laços de cooperação e de entreajuda. Como o Associativismo é uma manifestação da sociedade é óbvio que a evolução da mesma “induz” ao ajustamento e o ao aparecimento de novas formas, foi o que sucedeu com o 25 de Abril de 1974. Como verificámos que sensivelmente metades das associações que hoje temos em Portugal decorem do 25 de Abril de 1974, a par do substancial aumento do número de associações. Surgiu uma grande diversificação de associativismo: movimento de moradores; juvenil e estudantes; ambiente e ecologia; de pais e de família; etc. Mais tarde, na década de oitenta do século vinte, surgiram as IPSS (Instituições Particulares de Solidariedade Social) e ADL (Associações de Desenvolvimento Local). Actualmente, o Associativismo é um assunto de grande interesse que vale ser tido em conta quando estudamos uma cidade saudável, pois este pode ser integrado no desenvolvimento sustentável. A cidade de Coimbra faz parte dessa rede e nesse sentido quisemos saber como é que se distribui a rede associativa na área urbana e como é que contribui para a melhor qualidade de vida dos seus habitantes, e sendo assim fizemos uma investigação e uma a análise em volta dos residentes e das associações, através inquérito por questionário que possibilitou saber as características dos inquiridos.

The associativism is the driving force of a society progress, and mistaken is any political power that ignores, does not encourage or protect such social manifestation. The associations are a symbol of life, construction and hope and the volunteer work supports the social economy and consequently results in an effective citizenship. Associations are old as human beings, which have a vital need to establish relationships, cooperate and help the other. As associativism is a manifestation of the society, it is normal that transformations and evolution of such groups result in new forms and ways of expression. That was what happened after the 25th April of 1974. Although there was a huge increase in the number, about half of the associations that we have nowadays exists since then. The associations have diversified in the different fields: neighbourhood, student, environment and ecology, parents and family and many others. During the eighties, have also appeared the IPSS (Instituições Particulares de Solidariedade Social) and ADL (Associações de Desenvolvimento Local). Currently, the associativism is crucial for an integrated and sustainable city development that it urges to approach and study the particular case of Coimbra. I investigated how the diverse associations are distributed throughout the city. I also studied how this network of associations contributes for the well being and quality of life of this particular population. For that, I inquired a group of habitants of Coimbra about their ligation to associations as well as their activity. I also contacted several associations in order to obtain their purpose of existence. This way I could establish a detailed description of the existing associations and establish a profile of features that characterize the population of Coimbra in terms of the type of associations that they frequent as well as their opinion about these associations.
