After reviewing literature in the field of job satisfaction in teaching, we conducted a study with Angolan teachers, analyzing this phenomenon in terms of sociodemographic and professional variables. We used the survey methodology, using a sociodemographic questionnaire, the General Satisfaction Scale at Work adapted by Silva, Azevedo e Dias (1994), and the Teacher Job Satisfaction Questionnaire (TJSQ) by Lester (1982), translated and adapted to the Portuguese population by Seco (2000). As for the results we can conclude that, in general, participants in this study expressed satisfaction with their work and simultaneously low levels of desire to abandon it. However, the trained teachers are more satisfied than teachers without specific training, both in terms of overall satisfaction and in different areas of teacher job satisfaction, with the exception of the personal rewards factor, with no statistically significant differences between the teachers groups. The results also show that it is in primary education level that there is less overall satisfaction and greater willingness to abandon job, and the younger teachers are who show simultaneously less teacher job satisfaction, less satisfaction and more general desire to abandon it. There were no significant differences by gender. |
