No princípio estava o mar : Peniche : o património cultural, o turismo e o mar

Abstract

Tendo como território de estudo a cidade de Peniche, o trabalho que aqui apresenta-mos pretende, através de uma abordagem ao fenómeno da actividade turística e ao conceito do Património enquanto recurso turístico, analisar algumas das potencialidades, ameaças e desa-fios dos recursos naturais e culturais existentes nesta cidade, com características muito pró-prias. Serão aqui objecto de atenção os Patrimónios Geomorfológico, Histórico edificado, Arqueológico Subaquático e Gastronómico. Foi nossa intenção a elaboração de uma investigação de inventariado dos principais recursos turísticos da região de Peniche, traçando algo que se pretende assemelhar a um pequeno roteiro turístico, com pontos de paragem obrigatória em monumentos religiosos e militares, na ilha da Berlenga, que possui uma variedade de ofertas no âmbito do Turismo de Natureza, nas Falésias do Cabo Carvoeiro e nas características Rendas de Peniche, também conhecidas por Rendas de Bilros. Analisaremos ainda as potencialidades das ondas de “classe mundial” das praias de Peniche para a prática do Surf e outros desportos náuticos, cujo desenvolvimento tem vindo a ser fortemente apoiado pela Câmara Municipal de Peniche, e o impacto deste turismo centra-do no Surf na economia local, no desenvolvimento do turismo regional e sua contribuição para um desenvolvimento sustentável.

With the territory of Peniche as study–case, the work that we are tabling intends, through an approach to the phenomenon of tourism activities and the concept of heritage as a touristic resource, to analyze some touristic potential, threats and challenges of natural and cultural resources existing in this city, with highly distinct characteristics. The Geomorpho-logical, Historic edified, Archeological Subaquatic and Gastronomic kinds of heritage will be subject of our attention. It was our intention to make a research work, focusing an inventory of the main touris-tic resources in the region of Peniche, outlining something that pretends to be like a small tourist route, with essential staging points in the religious and military monuments, on the island of Berlenga, which has a variety of offers in the context of Nature Tourism, in the cliffs of the Carvoeiro Cap and in the characteristic Peniche Rents, also known as Bilros Rents. We will also examine the potential of the “world class” waves of the Peniche´s beach-es for the practicing of surfing and other nautical sports, which development has been highly supported by the municipality of Peniche, and the impact of Surf Tourism on the local econ-omy, in the growth of regional tourism and its contribution to a sustainable tourism.
