A morte do sentido: as experiências traumáticas de guerra e os limites do humano

Abstract

Com o presente ensaio o autor tenta ponderar a definição de uma condição humana universal à luz de experiências caracterizadas geralmente como experiências limite, como sejam aquelas que se encontram associadas a situações de guerra. Para tal, faz‑se uma investigação nos domínios da psiquiatria pós DSM‑III. Aí, um quadro nosológico específico, o distrúrbio de stresse pós‑traumático, dá forma classificatória às consequências traumáticas das experiências de guerra. Argumenta‑se que experiências limite não implicam uma humanidade essencial (com todas as inflexões morais que lhe poderíamos reconhecer) e uma suspensão do sentido (uma espécie de neutralidade interpretativa), mas trazem com elas novas e talvez insuspeitadas formas de atribuição de sentido.

With the present essay, the author tries to ponder about the definition of a human universal condition through experiences generally described as experiences at the limit, such as those that are connected to war situations. For that, an investigation in the domains of psychiatry after DSM‑III is done. There, a specific nosological grid, the post‑traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), gives a classificatory form to the traumatic consequences of war experiences. It is argued that experiences at the limit do not imply an essential humanity (with all the moral inflections that we might recognize in it) and a suspention of meaning (a kind of interpretive neutrality), but bring with them new and maybe unsuspected ways of meaning attribution.
