INTRODUCTION: Mutual misunderstandings of functional contents among diverse areas of knowledge can difficult team work and become one of the major problems of both acknowledgement and articulation. OBJECTIVES: The main objective of this research is to study the perception health technicians have about Clinical Psychology in Primary Health Care. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The sample in this study is of 243 subjects, all health professionals (doctors, nurses and social workers), from 12 of the 22 health centres of Coimbra’s former Health Sub-area. The selection was random and stratified. Four original scales with five gradients with a Likert type scale quantification system were developed. CONCLUSIONS: The majority of the subjects (95%) defends that this research work is essential to know more about Clinical Psychology in Primary Health Care. The Perception of Clinical Psychology, measured in the scale of “adaptation to DSM-IV” (A-DSM-IV) expressed in the Pertinence and Utility of Clinical Psychology’s Collaboration in the approach of the problems mentioned in their items, presents significant statistic differences depending on the job, the areas where the subjects work, age and the graduation year. The Perception of Clinical Psychology measured in the scale of “ Classical Activity of CSP” (AC-CSP) expressed in the Pertinence and Utility of Clinical Psychology’s Collaboration in the approach of the problems mentioned in their items, presents significant statistic differences depending on the job, the areas where the subjects work, age and the graduation year. The Perception of Clinical Psychology, measured in the scale of “Clinical Psychology in a General Perspective – Knowledge Dimension” (PCG-C)) presents significant statistic differences according to age, graduation year and the fact of teaming up or having teamed up with clinical psychologists. The Perception of Clinical Psychology, measured in the scale of “Clinical Psychology in a General Perspective – Opinion” (PCG-O) presents significant statistic differences according to the usual work place. The Perception of Clinical Psychology measured in the scale of “Work That Psychologists Should Develop” (PC-TDD) does not present significant statistic differences according to the independent variables. |
