o conhecimento do comportamento mecânico das construções antigas
nacionais.
Today, there is a renewed interest in the rehabilitation of traditional buildings, composed usually with masonry walls and timber floors / roofs. Nevertheless, the rehabilitation of old buildings requires specific knowledge and the characterization of existing materials and technologies. In the absence of studies that contribute to this knowledge, the interventions will probably result in a loss of the cultural value and authenticity of the built heritage. The present paper is part of an attempt to increase the knowledge of the mechanical behaviour of traditional old buildings in Portugal. Therefore, the paper presents a survey of the wall typologies in the Tentúgal village, as well as a proposal for a database and a methodology for survey and data processing. The mechanical characterization of the walls, using flat-jack testing, and the limestone of the walls, using cores removed locally, is also addressed. It is observed that the mechanical properties of the walls are mostly controlled by the masonry bond and by the mortar. |
