dc.description.abstract | Industrial archaeology emerged in the mid-20th century as a response to deindustrialization and destruction of significant industrial sites. Organizations such as ICOMOS, UNESCO, and TICCIH have played a pivotal role in preserving this heritage and providing guidelines for interventions in this field. In Portugal, despite legal gaps, organizations such APPI have been working to protect and cherish industrial heritage, contributing to its cultural recognition and economic revitalization in different regions affected by industrial decline.Research and cataloging play a crucial role in preserving the country's industrial history, and that's precisely the contribution sought in the study of Carpet Factory’s legacy, located in Lousã, where it once had a strong social and economic impact. This particular case presents the significant challenge of being located in an urban context, specifically in the city's historic center. Then comes the crucial question of how to ensure that the factory’s underutilized spaces relate and reintegrate with their urban surroundings. The Lousã’s Carpet Factory represents a legacy of great importance in the context of industrial memory in Portugal, whether for its size, the social and economic importance it had, or even for its location and urban impact. It is considered that investigating the factory’s history and its documentation can be of great importance for the future of this period to be thought of in order to reconcile the preservation of memory with its sustainability. | eng |
