Ano Zero de Santa Clara Um acto político de cultura para Coimbra

Abstract

Culture is an ancient thing that dates back to times as old as the Paleolithic. In addition, it has always been an aggregator of different types of knowledge, many inherited in Ancient Greece, and which season after season has been revolved until the present day. Among these types of knowledge, there is a distinction between those linked to the arts, in particular those linked to the visual and performing arts, but also those linked to the art of urbanizing and inhabiting the territory, our common home. And, more sparsely, others such as anthropology. And this is the essence of the thing that is culture. In addition to a political act, it is also an act of urbanity at the service of the development of places. Santa Clara is one of those places. A core place of the city of Coimbra, but which until today has developed beyond its margin, to the other margin. The left bank of a river that joins it more than it separates it: the Mondego. But, beyond the river and the bank, there are other realities in this place. One is very old and is associated with its origin as a place, the convent heritage, and the other, the silence that still remains in the unbuilt. Realities that call for urgent gestures of attention and affection, which, fortunately, have taken place through concrete actions, the most recent, by Anozero.A cultural initiative for the city to which I join my own: a Cultural Quarter. An initiative embodied in the vision of a - “recherche du temps perdu” - that aims to rescue from suspended time, what still resists from the Monastery of Santa Clara-a-Nova and its Fence, and from it, in a strategy of urban revitalization materialized in the intervention proposal presented here. A proposal based on the refunctionalization of the Monastery as a host space for the arts, reinforced by the contribution it will make by uniting the city. Santa Clara’s Year Zero will be Coimbra’s first.

A cultura é uma coisa antiga que remonta a momentos tão antigos quanto o Paleolítico. Além disso, foi sempre uma coisa agregadora de saberes distintos, muitos herdados na Grécia Antiga, e que época após época vem sendo revolvidos até aos nossos dias. Dentre estes saberes distinguem-se os ligados às artes, em particular os ligados ás artes plásticas e performativas, mas também os ligados à arte de bem urbanizar e habitar o território, a nossa casa comum. E, mais esparsamente, outros como a antropologia. E isto é a essência da coisa que é a cultura. Para além de um ato político, também um ato de urbanidade ao serviço do desenvolvimento dos lugares. Santa Clara é um desses lugares. Um lugar nuclear da cidade de Coimbra, mas que até hoje se desenvolveu para lá da sua margem, a outra margem. A margem esquerda de um rio que mais a junta do que a separa: o Mondego. Mas, para além do rio e da margem, outras realidades existem neste lugar. Uma muito antiga e que está associada à sua origem como lugar, o património conventual, e a outra, o silêncio que ainda permanece no não construído. Realidades que reclamam gestos urgentes de atenção e afeto, que, afortunadamente, têm tido lugar através de ações concretas, as mais recentes, pela Anozero.Uma iniciativa de cultura para a cidade à qual me junto com a minha própria: um Bairro Cultural. Uma iniciativa consubstanciada na visão de um - “recherche du temps perdu” - que ambiciona resgatar do tempo suspenso, o que ainda resiste do Mosteiro de Santa Clara-a-Nova e da sua Cerca, e a partir dele, numa estratégia de revitalização urbana materializada na proposta de intervenção aqui apresentada. Uma proposta assente na refuncionalização do Mosteiro como um espaço anfitrião das artes, reforçada pelo contributo que dará ao unir a cidade. O Ano Zero de Santa Clara será o primeiro de Coimbra.
