Ecovillage nos Campos do Mondego: Arquitetura Para Uma Comunidade Urbano-Agrícola Sustentável

Abstract

The Master's Thesis I present, which is part of the theme "Fast! Slow! Far! Close! The multiple cities generated by the new railway station of Coimbra", results from the proposal launched by the Design Studio B. Its main goal is to reformulate the northern outskirts of the city of Coimbra, through a new intermodal mobility system and other fundamental programs for this place, such as services, commerce, housing and others. The implementation of the High Speed Rail in Coimbra led to the creation of a new strategy, a new urban plan that would respond to the goals proposed by Coimbra’s City Council and to the needs of the population of the surrounding neighborhoods, such as Loreto, Pedrulha and Monte Formoso. It is necessary to understand that the role of a railway station transcends its function as a mere transport infrastructure. It plays a fundamental role, particularly at a social and urban level, which inevitably transforms the living of the space and the daily life of those who live there. The analysis of the place, its weaknesses and benefits, and the study of the population turned out to be crucial in the making of a consistent project, adjusted to the context. In this sense, it is vital that the other implemented programmes aim to solve the present setbacks. After the urban strategy was defined, as group work, followed the deepening of my knowledge about collaborative housing and the same in an ecological prospect, in relationship with the practice of agriculture, to what can be called an ecovillage, a concept that until now was unknown to me.My proposal, an ecovillage in the Mondego fields, intends to offer this place a new sustainable residential cluster development, composed by single-family houses and agricultural tracks, where commercial activities are foreseen, namely farmers markets, and other services that meet some of the needs of this population.

A Dissertação de Mestrado que apresento, integrada no tema “Fast! Slow! Far! Close! As múltiplas cidades geradas pela nova estação ferroviária de Coimbra”, resulta da proposta lançada pelo Atelier de Projeto B, tendo como principal objetivo reformular a periferia Norte da cidade de Coimbra, através de um novo sistema de mobilidade intermodal e outros programas fundamentais para este lugar, como serviços, comércio, habitação e outros. A implantação da Linha de Alta Velocidade (LAV) em Coimbra levou à criação de uma estratégia e de um novo plano urbano que respondesse aos objetivos propostos pela Câmara Municipal de Coimbra e às necessidades da população dos bairros circundantes, como o Loreto, a Pedrulha e o Monte Formoso. É necessário compreender que o papel de uma estação ferroviária transcende a sua função como mera infraestrutura de transporte. Esta desempenha um papel fundamental, nomeadamente a nível social e urbano, que transforma inevitavelmente a vivência do espaço e do dia-a-dia de quem ali mora. O estudo do lugar, das suas fragilidades e benefícios e o estudo da população revelou-se, então, essencial para a conceção de um projeto consistente e ajustado ao contexto. Nesse sentido, é crucial que os demais programas implementados visem solucionar as contrariedades presentes.Depois da estratégia urbana estar definida, isto enquanto trabalho de grupo, seguiu-se o aprofundamento do meu conhecimento sobre a habitação colaborativa e a mesma num panorama ecológico, em comunhão com a prática da agricultura, ao que se pode denominar de ecovillage.A minha proposta individual, uma ecovillage nos Campos do Mondego, pretende oferecer a este lugar um novo aglomerado habitacional sustentável, composto por habitações unifamiliares e faixas agrícolas, onde estão previstas atividades comerciais, nomeadamente mercados de produtos biológicos, e outros serviços que vão ao encontro de algumas das necessidades desta população.
