Abstract

The present document consists of the internship report in Regulatory Affairs, the internship report in Community Pharmacy, and the Monograph entitled "Interaction of natural and synthetic stilbenes with SIRT1: opportunities for new drugs." The curricular internship report in Regulatory Affairs, conducted at INFARMED, I.P., aims to analyze my internship through a SWOT analysis (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats). This internship took place in the Market Maintenance Unit, which belongs to the Medicines Evaluation Directorate, from January to March 2022, under the guidance of Dr. Dina Lopes. The internship report in Community Pharmacy illustrates the skills acquired during my curricular internship, conducted at “Farmácia Adaúfe”, under the guidance of Dr. Jacinta Rocha, which took place between April and July 2022, through a SWOT analysis and the presentation of practical cases. Regarding the Monograph, the aging of the population and the consequent increase in risk factors for neurodegenerative diseases represent significant challenges for society. In this context, stilbenes have awakened scientific interest due to their antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and neuroprotective properties. Resveratrol, a stilbene and SIRT1 activator, shows potential in promoting healthy aging and addressing neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease. However, the therapeutic efficacy of resveratrol is compromised by its low bioavailability and rapid metabolism. This review explores the versatile role of stilbenes, focusing on resveratrol, in the context of treating and preventing the mentioned neurodegenerative diseases, highlighting their mechanisms of action and limitations. Additionally, potential strategies to overcome these challenges and maximize the therapeutic potential of stilbenes are addressed.

O presente documento é constituído pelo relatório de estágio em Assuntos Regulamentares, o relatório de estágio em Farmácia Comunitária e a Monografia intitulada “Interação de estilbenos naturais e sintéticos com a SIRT1: oportunidades de novos fármacos”. O relatório de estágio curricular em Assuntos Regulamentares, realizado no INFARMED, I.P., tem como objetivo analisar o meu estágio segundo uma análise SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities e Threats). Este foi realizado na Unidade de Manutenção no Mercado, que pertence à Direção de Avaliação de Medicamentos, de janeiro a março de 2022, sob orientação da Dra. Dina Lopes. O relatório de estágio em Farmácia Comunitária, retrata as competências adquiridas durante o meu estágio curricular, realizado na Farmácia Adaúfe, sob orientação da Dra. Jacinta Rocha, que decorreu entre abril e julho de 2022, por meio de uma análise SWOT e da apresentação de casos práticos. Relativamente à monografia, o envelhecimento da população e o consequente aumento dos fatores de riscos das doenças neurodegenerativas representam desafios significativos para a sociedade. Neste contexto, os estilbenos têm despertado interesse científico devido às suas propriedades antioxidantes, anti-inflamatórias e neuroprotetoras. O resveratrol, um estilbeno ativador da SIRT1, demonstra potencial na promoção do envelhecimento saudável e no combate às doenças neurodegenerativas, como a doença de Alzheimer e doença de Parkinson. No entanto, a eficácia terapêutica do resveratrol é comprometida pela sua baixa biodisponibilidade e rápida metabolização. Esta revisão explora o papel multifacetado dos estilbenos, com foco no resveratrol, no tratamento e prevenção das doenças neurodegenerativas mencionadas, destacando os mecanismos de ação e as limitações destes compostos. Além disso, são abordadas as potenciais estratégias para superar estes desafios e maximizar o potencial terapêutico dos estilbenos.
