Monografia e Relatório de Estágio intitulado “Contribuição da Fitoterapia em infeções por Candida albicans”

Abstract

This document contains the internship report carried out in Community Pharmacy under the guidance of Dr. Isabel Belchior and the Monograph with the theme "Contribution of Phytotherapy in Candida albicans infections" under the guidance of Professor António Paranhos.In the internship report, in order to make my experience in community pharmacy known, I have drawn up a SWOT analysis in which I set out the strengths, weaknesses, threats and opportunities I felt during this experience, as well as 5 practical cases I experienced during my consultations.Later on, I'll address the subject of my monograph, the abstract of which can be found below:"It is estimated that around 75% of women of childbearing age have at least one occurrence of candidiasis in their lifetime, and around 40% of them suffer a second infection. Although this infection is not life-threatening, an unresolved infection affects women's quality of life, from their social and professional lives to their mental health and sexual relations. The growing incidence of antifungal resistance, the great difficulty in treating resistant biofilms and the limitation and toxicity of existing therapies make it urgent to find new therapeutic solutions that are more tolerable, more accessible and improve patients' quality of life, with phytotherapy emerging as an alternative. This monograph is therefore a literature review on phytotherapeutic alternatives in the treatment of vulvovaginal candidiasis. Various topics are covered in this document, including some characteristics of Candida spp. and the vaginal microflora, epidemiology, symptoms and clinical manifestations, conventional therapy and phytotherapeutic alternatives to it or with potential in the development of future treatments."

No presente documento consta o relatório de estágio realizado em Farmácia Comunitária sob orientação da Dra. Isabel Belchior e a Monografia com o tema “Contribuição da Fitoterapia em infeções por Candida albicans” sob orientação do Professor Doutor António Paranhos.No relatório de estágio com o intuito de dar a conhecer a minha experiência em farmácia comunitária procedi à elaboração de uma análise SWOT onde exponho os pontos fortes, pontos fracos, ameaças e oportunidades sentidas durante esta experiência bem como 5 casos práticos vivenciados ao longo dos meus atendimentos.Posteriormente abordarei o tema da minha monografia cujo resumo se encontra abaixo mencionado:"Estima-se que cerca de 75% das mulheres em idade fértil tenham pelo menos uma ocorrência de candidíase ao longo da sua vida, e cerca de 40% delas sofram uma segunda infeção. Embora esta infeção não coloque em risco a vida das mulheres, uma infeção não resolvida afeta a qualidade de vida feminina desde a sua vida social e profissional, saúde mental e relações sexuais. A crescente incidência da resistência antifúngica, a elevada dificuldade em tratar biofilmes resistentes e a limitação e toxicidade das terapêuticas existentes torna urgente a necessidade de encontrar novas soluções terapêuticas mais toleráveis, mais acessíveis e que melhorem a qualidade de vida dos pacientes surgindo a fitoterapia como uma alternativa. A presente monografia constitui, portanto, um trabalho de revisão bibliográfica sobre as alternativas fitoterapêuticas no tratamento da candidíase vulvovaginal. No presente documento são abordados diversos tópicos desde algumas características de Candida spp. e da microflora vaginal, epidemiologia, sintomas e manifestações clínicas, terapêutica convencional e alternativas fitoterapêuticas à mesma ou com potencial no desenvolvimento de futuros tratamentos."
