FINAL DA TAÇA DE PORTUGAL DE 1969 O “GRANDE ATAQUE” À DITADURA

Abstract

The main goal of this work is to analyze a specific event that is the Final Cup of Portugal in 1969 between Benfica and Académica de Coimbra. This final took place during a student crisis, and it was widely used by the students themselves as a means of promoting and sensitizing others for their struggle. Based on this assumption, some broader aspects of the Estado Novo will be studied, such as the way in which it used sport to instill its fascist rhetoric, and we will look at the evolution of the regime's behavior in this area. From the beginning of its attitude towards sport, where it sought to instill a feature more related to gymnastics, until the moment the government realized the importance of football in luring the masses and used it for its own benefit. Another aspect that will be examined will be the entire 60s generation and its context, because all this atmosphere important for us to have a vision of all these specific events. This whole atmosphere was marked by the youthful rebellion, who began to claim more rights not only for themselves, but also for the society. This phenomenon happened all over the world during this decade, including Portugal. It was at this time that the 1969 crisis took place, the biggest protest against Estado Novo, in which its most emblematic moment was the 1969 final. As classified by the newspaper O Público, it was the “greatest comic against the dictatorship”.That is why this work seeks to analyze this sporting event, and the way in which it impacted this entire generation of the 60s.

O presente trabalho tem como objetivo principal analisar um evento específico que se trata da Final taça de Portugal tinha 1969 entre o Benfica e a Académica de Coimbra. Esta final ficou marcada por ocorrer em plena crise estudantil, logo foi muito utilizada por estes como um meio de divulgar a sua luta. É a partir deste pressuposto que se irá estudar alguns aspetos mais abrangentes do Estado Novo como por exemplo a maneira como este utilizou o desporto para incutir a sua retórica fascista, ou seja, iremos olhar para a evolução desta postura do regime face a esta área. Deste os primórdios da sua atitude face ao desporto, onde este procurava incutir uma faceta mais ligada à ginástica, até ao momento em que este percebeu a importância do futebol para atrair massas e utilizou-o para o seu próprio proveito. Outro dos aspetos que irão ser examinados será toda a geração dos anos 60 e o seu contexto, porque tudo este ambiente é importante para termos uma visão de todos estes acontecimentos específicos, todo este ambiente que ficou marcado por uma rebeldia juvenil, em que estes começaram a reivindicar mais direitos não só para si, mas também para a sociedade em geral. Este fenómeno aconteceu um pouco por todo o mundo durante esta década, e também chegou a Portugal. Foi nesta época que se deu a crise de 69, o maior protesto contra o Estado Novo neste período, em que o seu momento mais emblemático foi a final de 1969. Como classificou o jornal O Público, foi o “maior cómico contra a ditadura”.Por isso é que esse trabalho procura analisar este evento desportivo, e a forma como este impactou toda esta geração dos anos 60.
