Avaliação da atratividade do sorriso em doentes com fenda lábio palatina

Abstract

Introdução: O sorriso é um dos elementos faciais mais importantes na estética facial. No entanto, existem algumas anomalias craniofaciais que podem alterar de forma negativa a estética facial, como é o caso da Fenda lábio palatina (FLP). O objetivo principal deste estudo foi avaliar a importância dos diferentes elementos faciais na atratividade da face em indivíduos portadores de FLP.Materiais e Métodos: Para avaliar a atratividade facial, foi selecionada uma amostra constituída por 9 pessoas sem formação na área de Medicina Dentária, que avaliaram, segundo a Escala Visual Analógica, fotografias extra orais de indivíduos portadores de fenda lábio palatina, antes e após o tratamento ortodôntico. A análise estatística dos valores da atratividade dos vários elementos faciais foi realizada em IBM® SPSS® v28, adotando-se um nível de significância de 0.05.Resultados: Antes do tratamento ortodôntico, o elemento facial considerado mais atrativo foi a pele seguindo-se dos olhos, sendo que o sorriso foi considerado o menos atrativo. Após o tratamento ortodôntico o elemento com menor média de classificação foi o nariz. O sorriso foi o elemento facial que mais variou, passando de uma média de classificação, segundo a Escala Visual Analógica, de 1.5 para 4.5, antes e após o tratamento ortodôntico, respetivamente.Conclusão: Em doentes portadores de fenda lábio palatina, não submetidos a tratamento ortodôntico, o sorriso é o elemento facial considerado menos atrativo. No entanto, é também aquele que sofre maior impacto no sentido positivo após realização do tratamento ortodôntico. Assim, o papel do Ortodontista é crucial na melhoria da estética facial dos doentes portadores de FLP.

Introduction: The smile is one of the most important facial features in facial aesthetics. However, there are some craniofacial anomalies that negatively affect facial aesthetics, namely Cleft Lip and Palate (CLP). The main objective of this study was to evaluate the importance of different facial features in facial attractiveness among individuals with CLP. Materials and Methods: To assess facial attractiveness, a sample of 9 individuals without training in the field of Dentistry was selected. They evaluated, using the Visual Analog Scale, extraoral photographs of individuals with cleft lip and palate, before and after orthodontic treatment. Statistical analysis of the attractiveness values of various facial features was performed using IBM® SPSS® v28, adopting a significance level of 0.05. Results: Before orthodontic treatment, the facial feature considered most attractive was the skin, followed by the eyes, while the smile was considered the least attractive. After orthodontic treatment, the facial feature with the lowest average rating was the nose. The smile was the element that showed the most variation, with an average rating on the Visual Analog Scale of 1.5 before treatment and 4.5 after orthodontic treatment.Conclusion: In patients with cleft lip and palate who have not undergone orthodontic treatment, the smile is considered the least attractive facial feature. However, it is also the one that experiences the greatest positive impact after orthodontic treatment. Thus, the role of the Orthodontist is crucial in improving the facial aesthetics of patients with CLP.
