O Acordo entre Informadores na Avaliação do Funcionamento Executivo com Recurso ao BRIEF2

Abstract

The current study analyzed the existing agreement between informants, specifically between parents and teachers, in the assessment of executive functions (EF) of Portuguese children and teenagers, using the Behavior Rating Inventory of Executive Function, Second Edition (BRIEF2) (Parent Form and Teacher Form). The sample included 636 subjects (50.5% boys) from 5 to 18 years old (M = 12.25, SD = 3.39), attending school from the first to the twelfth grade.The results encountered in the present study showed positive, mostly moderate, and significant correlations between informants, where parents, in regard to all school grades, assessed greater difficulties in children's and youth’s executive functioning. There was a predominantly fair agreement, which was lower for the Emotional Control scale and the Emotional Regulation Index in comparison with all the remaining scales and the Cognitive and Behavioral Regulation Indexes, with teachers consistently indicating fewer emotional control difficulties. Furthermore, it was also found that the obtained interrater agreement was greater for first graders in comparison with the other school grades, as well as for boys when compared with girls. The obtained results support the precision of Portuguese BRIEF2 versions for parents and teachers.The study presents some limitations, such as the absence of a multilevel analysis to further investigate the influence that variables, such as gender and school grade, can have on informants’ evaluations.

O presente estudo analisou o acordo existente entre informadores, especificamente entre pais e professores, na avaliação das funções executivas (FE) de crianças e jovens portugueses, com recurso às versões portuguesas do Behavior Rating Inventory of Executive Function, Second Edition (BRIEF2) (Versão para Pais e Versão para Professores). A amostra integrou 636 sujeitos (50.5% rapazes) dos 5 aos 18 anos (M = 12.25, DP = 3.39), que frequentavam todos os ciclos do ensino básico e o ensino secundário. Os resultados encontrados no presente estudo demonstraram correlações positivas, classificadas como maioritariamente moderadas e significativas entre os informadores, onde os pais, relativamente a todos os ciclos de escolaridade, avaliaram a existência de maiores dificuldades no funcionamento executivo das crianças e jovens. Verificou-se um acordo predominantemente razoável, sendo que este foi menor na escala de Controlo Emocional e no Índice de Regulação Emocional comparativamente às restantes escalas e aos índices de Regulação Cognitiva e Comportamental, constatando-se que os professores indicaram, consistentemente, menos dificuldades de controlo emocional. Verificou-se, igualmente, que o acordo obtido entre os informadores era maior no primeiro ciclo do ensino básico comparativamente com os restantes ciclos de escolaridade, bem como para rapazes comparativamente com as raparigas.Os resultados obtidos apoiam a precisão das versões portuguesas para pais e professores do BRIEF2.O estudo apresenta algumas limitações, nomeadamente o facto de não ter sido realizada uma análise multinível de forma a explorar mais aprofundadamente a influência que variáveis, como o género e o ciclo escolaridade, podem ter nas avaliações dos informadores.
