De Portas Abertas: Trabalho Na Arregaça

Abstract

This internship report for the Master's degree in Sociology at the Faculty of Economics /University of Coimbra has as its empirical context the second phase of the community arts intervention project "De Portas Abertas", coordinated by the professional theater company O Teatrão (Oficina Municipal de Teatro, Coimbra).I was integrated as an element of a multidisciplinary team, responsible for the deepening of the cultural mapping work carried out in the first phase of intervention in the Arregaça Valley. This area of the city of Coimbra has suffered, over the years, transformations resulting from urban growth processes and has been one of the urban contexts where, since 2019, Teatrão has been working in articulation with local organizations, residents, artists, parish council and academic institutions such as the Centre for Social Studies and the Faculty of Economics of the University of Coimbra. During the interventions in this second phase, we seek to understand how the work has influenced and influences the social, economic and family dynamics in the Arregaça Valley, and how a process of artistic intervention can offer alternatives that help to mitigate the processes of the growing social and cultural exclusion of these communities.Art is inseparable from major social changes. Currently, artists and collectives with strong activist thoughts, make use of different artistic manifestations to symbolize, amplify, and problematize social claims, through the most varied artistic languages such as street art, performance, video, music, and interventions that invite community participation. These social actors are framed in a new strand of expression called artivism.Throughout the process, a set of parallel activities were carried out to collect information, which was later used for the creation of the final dramaturgy of the performance (De Portas Abertas II - Os Caminhos do Trabalho). During my empirical work, I’ve applied several methodological approaches, such as: direct observation, participant observation, focus groups, semi-directive interviews, documental analysis, bibliographic collection and reading, reading of press releases, documental analysis of the performance's dossiers and documental analysis of the dramaturgy materials and master's reports. Of note is the design and implementation of a participatory and collaborative methodology within the scope of the Street Assemblies of the Arregaça Valley, which here took the format of Focus Groups.

Este relatório de estágio de Mestrado em Sociologia da Faculdade de Economia da Universidade de Coimbra tem como contexto empírico a segunda fase do projeto de intervenção artístico-comunitário “De Portas Abertas”, da companhia profissional de teatro O Teatrão (Oficina Municipal de Teatro, Coimbra).Fui integrado como elemento de uma equipa multidisciplinar, responsável pelo aprofundamento dos trabalhos de mapeamento cultural realizados na primeira fase de intervenção no Vale da Arregaça. Esta zona da cidade de Coimbra tem sofrido, ao longo dos anos, transformações decorrentes dos processos de crescimento urbano e tem vindo a ser um dos contextos urbanos onde, desde 2019, o Teatrão tem trabalhado em articulação com organizações locais, residentes, artistas, junta de freguesia e instituições académicas como o Centros de Estudos Sociais e a Faculdade de Economia da Universidade de Coimbra. Durante as intervenções nesta segunda fase, procuramos compreender, de que forma o trabalho influenciou e influencia as dinâmicas sociais, económicas e familiares no Vale da Arregaça, e de que forma um processo de intervenção artística pode oferecer alternativas que ajudem a minorar os processos de crescente exclusão social e cultural destas comunidades.A arte é indissociável das grandes mudanças sociais. Atualmente, artistas e coletivos com fortes pensamentos ativistas, fazem uso de diferentes manifestações artísticas para simbolizar, amplificar e problematizar as reivindicações sociais, através das mais variadas linguagens artísticas tais como arte de rua, performance, vídeo, música e intervenções que convidam à participação comunitária. Esses atores sociais são enquadrados numa nova vertente de expressão, chamada artivismo.Ao longo do processo, foram realizadas um conjunto de atividades paralelas que permitiram recolher informações, que mais tarde foram utilizadas para a criação da dramaturgia final do espetáculo (De Portas Abertas II - Os caminhos do Trabalho). Durante o meu trabalho empírico, utilizei diversas abordagens metodológicas, como: observação direta, observação participante, grupos focais, entrevistas semi-diretivas, análise documental, recolha e leitura bibliográfica, leitura de boletos de imprensa, análise documental dos dossiers de espetáculos e análise documental dos materiais da dramaturgia e de relatórios de mestrado. De relevar, o desenho e implementação de uma metodologia participativa e colaborativa no âmbito das Assembleias de Rua do Vale da Arregaça, que assumiram aqui o formato de Grupos focais.
