O Papel da Mulher na Família: A relação entre o equilíbrio trabalho-família, os papéis de género e a satisfação conjugal

Abstract

Since the 1970s, there has been a significant growth in the presence of women in the labor market and in different sectors of social, economic, and political activity. As women enter the workforce, they have taken on a more equal role compared to men. However, the division of tasks, especially concerning childcare and domestic work, still predominantly falls on women. This present study aims to contribute to the understanding of Marital Satisfaction by characterizing women in the current family and society, as well as investigating the possible relationships between Marital Satisfaction, Gender Roles, and Work-Family Balance. Our results indicate that Portuguese women tend to disagree with items describing the reconciliation between family and professional life through concession and value those that reveal negotiation. Regarding Gender Roles and Marital Satisfaction, it is possible to observe that the sample tends to adopt a more egalitarian view and shows high levels of Marital Satisfaction. Furthermore, a positive relationship between Work-Family Balance and Gender Roles, and Work-Family Balance and Marital Satisfaction was observed. .

Desde os anos 70, tem sido observado um crescimento significativo da presença da mulher no mercado de trabalho e em diferentes sectores da atividade social, económica e política. A mulher, ao inserir-se no mercado de trabalho, passou a assumir um papel mais igualitário em relação ao homem, contudo, a divisão de tarefas, especialmente no que se refere ao cuidado dos filhos e ao trabalho doméstico, parecem ainda recair predominantemente sobre a mulher. O presente estudo, levado a cabo com o principal intuito de contribuir para o conhecimento sobre a Satisfação Conjugal, procura caraterizar as mulheres na família e sociedade atual, bem como investigar as possíveis relações entre a Satisfação Conjugal, os Papéis de Género e o Equilíbrio Trabalho-Família. Os nossos resultados indicam que as mulheres portuguesas tendem a discordar dos itens que descrevem a conciliação entre a vida familiar e a vida profissional através da concessão e a valorizar os que revelam uma negociação. Em relação aos Papéis de Género e à Satisfação Conjugal, é possível observar que a amostra tende a adotar uma visão mais igualitária e apresenta altos índices de Satisfação Conjugal. Foi possível ainda observar uma relação positiva entre o Equilíbrio Trabalho-Família e os Papéis de Género, e Equilíbrio trabalho-família e Satisfação conjugal. .
