Mulheres, Percursos e Universidade as arquitetas docentes do d'Arq

Abstract

It is not from today that the female gender has an invisible role in most of careers. In architecture it is not different. In Portugal, women only had access to the possibility of becoming architects in the 1940 and, although they represent 44% of the members enrolled in Ordem dos Arquitetos, it is still very notorious that there is a lack of visibility. With a growing number of women enrolled in architecture courses, completing them successfully and taking part in professional practice, where are these women?Despite the fact that there is a meaningful percentage of women in architecture (students, researchers, thinkers and designers), we feel an enormous gap when studying their role in the area. The teaching of architecture is conditioned by the male point of view. The moments in which a female architect is presented as a reference are almost non existing. And the perception of space that is transmitted to us is mostly from the perspective of men, which, in addition to excluding women architects from this reflection, excludes women in general, since architecture is made for the enjoyment of all. It is, therefore, essential to deepen this theme of women in architecture, to understand how women experience and design space and what differentiates their look.It is therefore interesting to map women in architecture in Portugal. More specifically, in this dissertation, it is given the stage to the women of the Department of Architecture of the Universidade de Coimbra (DARQ-FCTUC), contributing, in addition to the recognition due to their fight for equity in the profession, but also in the teaching of architecture. Using as case study the universe of the Department of Architecture, where in its more than 30 years of existence, countless women, female students, female architects, female researchers and female professors have spent their time. Some of them, very recently, started occupying scientific and management positions, so we intend to investigate the Paths of the Feminine at the School of Coimbra, compiling testimonies and statistical elements about the teachers of this school, which allow us to draw a more rigorous picture of women in contemporary architecture.

Não é de hoje que a mulher tem papel invisível na maior parte dos cargos e profissões. Na arquitetura não é diferente. Em Portugal, só nos anos 1940 é que as mulheres tiveram acesso à profissão e, embora representem atualmente 44% dos membros inscritos na Ordem dos Arquitetos, é evidente a sua contínua falta de visibilidade. Registando-se um crescente número de mulheres a ingressar em cursos de arquitetura, a concluí-los com sucesso e a integrar a prática profissional, onde estão essas mulheres? Apesar da significativa percentagem de mulheres na arquitetura (estudantes, investigadoras, pensadoras e projetistas), sentimos uma grande lacuna na hora de estudar o seu papel na área disciplinar. O ensino da arquitetura é condicionado pelo ponto de vista masculino. São escassos os momentos em que nos é apresentada uma mulher arquiteta como referência. E a perceção do espaço que nos é transmitida é maioritariamente da perspetiva do homem, o que, para além de excluir as mulheres arquitetas desta reflexão, exclui as mulheres no geral, uma vez que a arquitetura é feita para usufruto de todos. É, por isso, essencial aprofundar este tema das mulheres na arquitetura, perceber como as mulheres vivenciam e projetam o espaço e o que diferencia o seu olhar.Interessa assim, mapear as mulheres na arquitetura em Portugal. Mais concretamente, nesta dissertação, dar o palco às mulheres do Departamento de Arquitetura da Universidade de Coimbra (DARQ-FCTUC), contribuindo, além do reconhecimento devido para a luta pela equidade na profissão, mas também no ensino da arquitetura. Usando como caso de estudo o universo do Departamento de Arquitetura, onde nos seus mais de 30 anos de existência, passaram inúmeras mulheres, alunas, arquitetas, investigadoras e professoras, algumas delas, muito recentemente, a ocupar cargos científicos e de direção, pretendemos investigar os Percursos do Feminino na Escola de Coimbra, compilando testemunhos e elementos estatísticos sobre as docentes desta escola, que nos permitam traçar um quadro mais rigoroso das mulheres na arquitetura na contemporaneidade.
