Arquitetura em Coletivo: os desafios de coletivos de arquitetura em tempos neoliberais

Abstract

This dissertation has as its central purpose the study of architectural practices performed in favor of a collective making of the city, investigated through the analysis of the professional practice of architecture collectives. Since the very term collectives already suggests a collaborative and horizontal way of acting, it is assumed that they subvert logics intrinsic to capitalist urbanism. This, in turn, is mostly ruled by mercantile priorities, in which the power of decision over space is limited to a restricted group of dominant social forces. It is from this scope that architecture collectives will be here analyzed, trying to find out if they are in fact able to contribute to the subversion of neoliberal urbanism and to the establishment of a more collaborative model of urban production. Moreover, based on the understanding that, although they have gradually achieved visibility in recent years, the contours of their practices remain vague, this research aims to collaborate to clarify what are architecture collectives. To this end, it starts from a comprehensive reading about the neoliberal management of cities and possible responses in the architectural practice, carried out through a literature review delimited to some studies considered relevant in the scope of the research undertaken. Thereafter, the study moves on to a global appreciation of architecture collectives, again based on a literature review and through the composition of an ideal type. Finally, an in-depth analysis of specific collectives is presented, carried out from semi-structured conversations with members of the selected groups. It became then possible to underline recurring aspects of the practice of architecture collectives, as well as to answer a large part of the questions raised by the dissertation about their role in a collective making of the city.

A presente dissertação tem como finalidade central o estudo de práticas arquitetônicas desempenhadas em prol de uma construção coletiva da cidade, investigadas através da análise do exercício profissional de coletivos de arquitetura. Visto que o próprio termo coletivos já sugere um fazer colaborativo e horizontal, supõe-se que subvertam lógicas intrínsecas ao urbanismo capitalista. Este, por sua vez, é regido maioritariamente a partir de prioridades mercantis, no qual o poder de decisão sob o espaço se limita a um grupo restrito de forças sociais dominantes. É a partir de tal âmbito que os coletivos de arquitetura serão aqui analisados, buscando-se averiguar se estes são de fato capazes de contribuir com a subversão do urbanismo neoliberal e com o estabelecimento de um modelo de produção urbana mais colaborativo. Ademais, partindo do entendimento que, apesar de terem gradualmente vindo a alcançar visibilidade nos últimos anos, os contornos das práticas destes permanecem vagos, a investigação pretende colaborar para a clarificação do que são coletivos de arquitetura. Para tal, parte-se de uma leitura abrangente acerca da gestão neoliberal das cidades e possíveis respostas da prática arquitetônica, realizada através de uma revisão de literatura delimitada a alguns estudos considerados pertinentes no âmbito da investigação realizada. Passa-se então para uma apreciação global sobre os coletivos de arquitetura, novamente com base numa revisão de literatura e através da composição de um tipo ideal. Por fim, apresenta-se uma análise aprofundada de coletivos específicos, realizada a partir de conversas semi-estruturadas com integrantes dos grupos selecionados. Com isto, foi possível sublinhar aspectos recorrentes da prática de coletivos de arquitetura, bem como responder a grande parte das questões levantadas pela dissertação acerca do papel que estes ocupam numa construção coletiva da cidade.
