Da Península Itálica à Península Ibérica: entre objetos e (possíveis) ideias (séculos XIV-VIII a.C.)

Abstract

Esta dissertação propõe-se a analisar os contactos (não necessariamente diretos) que poderão ter existido entre a Península Itálica e a Península Ibérica, durante o final da Idade do Bronze desta última região (séculos XIV-VIII a.C.). Em particular, pretende-se analisar o possível “modo de chegada” de objetos (importações) e ideias (“influências”, observadas em objetos ibéricos) de origem itálica peninsular aos atuais Portugal e Espanha. Um tema sobre o qual, até à data, escasseia a bibliografia, sendo frequentemente um “subcapítulo” em estudos sobre outras temáticas, e para o qual pretendemos contribuir.Para tal, reunimos o máximo possível de vestígios materiais arqueológicos com plausíveis origens ou elementos (morfologias, principalmente) itálicos encontrados em solo ibérico, posteriormente detalhados em anexo e analisados no texto principal; esta recolha e análise baseou-se somente em bibliografia, não nos tendo sido possível ver em pessoa a maior parte dos objetos tratados. Este conjunto de peças é extremamente variado, mas possui um claro foco em objetos com um certo prestígio (fíbulas e armas), e exibe, infelizmente, diversos problemas, principalmente ao nível das suas datações e contextos (ou, melhor dizendo, da sua falta). Estas dificuldades, que não poderão nunca ser ignoradas, foram sendo abordadas ao longo deste estudo. De uma forma menos detalhada, foram também tratados alguns elementos menos fidedignos, como representações iconográficas em estelas e petróglifos e certas decorações cerâmicas.A análise destes materiais, aliada à contextualização destes territórios e dos contactos mais bem estudados que tiveram, nestes séculos, com o “exterior”, permitiu-nos retirar várias conclusões e esboçar, sempre com as devidas reservas, uma linha cronológica, dividida em fases, para estes relacionamentos, que seriam muito variados e tocariam vários territórios e “povos”.

The aim of this dissertation is to analyse the (not necessarily direct) contacts that might have existed between the Italian and Iberian Peninsulas during the Late Bronze Age of the latter (14th-8th centuries BC). In particular, we intend to examine the possible “mode of arrival” of Italic objects (imports) and ideas (“influences”, observed in Iberian objects) in current Portugal and Spain. To date, this is a topic with scarce bibliography, frequently a mere “subchapter” in studies about other subjects, to which we aim to contribute.Thus, we have gathered as many archaeological materials as possible with Italic origin or elements (mostly morphologies) found in Iberian soil, which were later detailed in the annexes and analysed in the main text; this research and analysis were only based on bibliography, since it was not possible to see in person most of the objects studied. This material assemblage is extremely diverse, having nonetheless a clear focus on prestige items (fibulae and weapons), and unfortunately displays many problems, mostly regarding its dating and contexts (or rather, the lack thereof). These difficulties, which can never be ignored, were addressed throughout this study. In a less detailed way, less reliable elements were also considered, such as iconographic representations in stelae and petroglyphs and certain ceramic decorations.The analysis of these materials, combined with the contextualization of the territories and the better-known contacts they had with the “outside world” throughout these centuries, allowed us to draw several conclusions and make a timeline of relations that would have been incredibly varied and would have “touched” several territories and “peoples”.
