In the study cases, it is going to variate the angle between the front and rear axles, as well as, the oriention of the cross-wind. The tandem bus model was model after a Volvo 7900, wich is an eletric tandem bus. The model of the tandem bus was made by using a Computer-Aided Design (CAD) program, called Inventor. This dissertation evaluates the aerodynamic forces: drag force, lift force and lateral force, but also roll momentun, pitch momentum and yawn momentun, introduced by the cross-wind in this type of vehicle. To achieve this objective, various configurations of the tandem bus were used, namely angles of zero degress, fifteen degrees and thirty degrees between the front and rear axles, with and without cross-wind. During the study cases, it was used a moving speed of fifty kilometros per hour, and a cross-wind speed of sixty kilometros per hour, with negative and positive degrees of incedence. Wich results in a overall flow around the tandem of seventy eigth kilometros per hour with fifty degress of incidence. The conclusion is that the tandem bus, independent of the axle angle between the front and rear, is not in danger of roll over, however it may start to lose traction and drift into other lanes, what is going to make the driver to take evasion maneuvers to avoid a crash. |
