Biography
G Pinto graduated in Biology in 1998 at University of Aveiro (UA), obtained the MSc degree in Genetic Resources and Improvement of Crop and Forestry Species (University of Trás-os-Montes Alto Douro) in 2002 and, PhD degree in Biology in 2007 at UA. From 2002 to 2005, was invited assistant professor at UA. In 2007 warned a Post-doc position at the department of Biology (Dbio) of UA (with INIA, Madrid). From July 2009 to June 2014 was assistant researcher (through the competitive FCT Program Ciência 2008) at the Center for Environmental and Marine Studies (CESAM) and Dbio/UA. From August to December 2014 was Post-Doc Researcher at CESAM (“Fungal & Plant Biology Lab”). Since April 2015 holds a FCT Post-Doc researcher position (CESAM/ University of Cordoba, Spain).
Conducts research in the areas of plant physiology and biotechnology. Current research interests include physiological and molecular responses to abiotic/biotic stress combination in trees. Outcomes of this research represent key results to decipher the impact of climate change in forest and support selection decisions. Author of 40 papers in SCI journals, 28 of which published after obtaining the PhD degree, h-indice of 14 (ISI web of knowledge- June). Scientific network is supported by publications with more than 40 distinct authors (national/ international nature). Co- author of: 4 book chapters, 10 conference proceedings and 59 communications in international /national meetings. Was principal investigator (2010) of one FCT project (Ecophysiolyptus with ≥190K€). Local coordinator of one other and team member of 9. Currently is PI of 1 research project recently approved by FCT (URGENTpine start 01/2016; with ≥199K€) within the scope of this proposal. Team member of 2 others. Invited to participate in the Portuguese field work experiments of the EU project CASCADE (ALTERRA- Netherlands). Supervised 7 MSc, 9 graduations students, 4 grant holders among others. At present supervises 2 MSc, 2 PhD students (co-tuttelle with James Hutton Institute/UK and University of Oviedo/Spain; other University of Tocantins), 2 Post-doc. Two grant holders will start in 01/2016. Examiner in national/international thesis for PhD/ MSc degree. Reviewer of 13 SCI journals. Tight collaboration with forestry stakeholders. Reviewer of international projects (Netherlands Org. Scientific Research, ERA-CAPS, Czech Science Foundation). Was awarded with a Special Visiting Researcher grant, financed by the Brazilian government (Science Without Borders program) to supervise a project at the Federal University of Tocantins (Brazil). Nominated as national delegate to the management committee on the COST action FP1403 (NNEXT) and substitute in the action FP1406 (PINESTRENGTH). Participated in COST Action FP1202 (MaP-FGR). Organized one advanced course.
