Biography
Gabriel Pires obtained his PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineer from the University of Coimbra in 2012. He is Adjunct Professor at the Engineering Department of the Polytechnic Institute of Tomar, and Associate Researcher at the Institute of Systems and Robotics, University of Coimbra, being supervisor of several MSc and PhD students, and Postdoc researchers. He is also the coordinator of the Lab. VITA.IPT – Life Assisted by Intelligent Environments. He participated, as responsible, member or collaborator, in several National and European R&D projects in the areas of Human-computer interfaces, assistive mobile robotics and telehealth. His main research focus is on EEG-based brain-computer interfaces (BCIs) and biosignal processing, seeking to improve the reliability and usability of BCIs. He serves as a reviewer in many scientific journals and scientific committees of several conferences. He was the recipient of several national awards including the PhD Fraunhofer Portugal Challenge. He was a member of the board of the Portuguese Society for Rehabilitation and Accessibility Engineering – SUPERA.
