Abstract
FP-ENAS aims at developing fundamental, experimental and applied research as a contribution to Human Development and Wellbeing. This is in alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and the European Union strategy and values, specifically in terms of Health, Environment and Energy goals. FP-ENAS envisions an integrated perspective to address the complexity of populations' life quality, expressed in health and wellbeing, and the quality of the environment and the social context of communities as health pressure factors. Energy has been the support for technological development providing comfort, communication, health diagnosis and therapies, resulting in human wellbeing and longevity. Energy has driven industrialization, economic growth and welfare, but this has not always translated into human development. The intensive use of energy and food is accumulating negative environment outcomes creating negative consequences for human health. All these factors impact the prevalence of a variety of diseases such as autoimmune and chronic inflammatory diseases, multiple chemical sensitivity, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, Parkinson, Alzheimer and cancer among others. Cancer and its notorious relation to the environmental presence of carcinogens is of particular relevance in this regard. Since its creation, FP-ENAS has successfully engaged an interdisciplinary team of researchers with strong expertise in energy, environment, environmental health and a vast array of basic and applied health related subjects.
