Description

Abstract
Our Institute will continue to address the following main topics: functional genomics of retinal degeneration and inherited retinal diseases; molecular mechanisms of age-related cell damage and injury mediators; multimodal imaging of blood retinal barrier on diabetic retinal disease; mechanisms of visual perception at the retinal and cortical level; functional imaging of the retina and brain and molecular imaging of systemic disorders using nuclear medicine techniques. IBILI is a research Institution of the Faculty of Medicine – University of Coimbra and relies on excellent clinical and laboratory facilities as well as on a highly skilled and multidisciplinary scientific staff. IBILI is an internationally recognized centre of excellence for research in health sciences. Particular strengths include research in Vision Sciences, Neuroscience, Physiology, Pharmacology, Molecular Biology of Complex systems and Bioimaging.
