Abstract: This work intends to analyze the presence of food and of the commensality habits in the ecclesiastical chapters of the city of Coimbra, during the Middle Ages and in the beginning of the Modernity. From the detailed analysis of the statutes and constitutions produced during these centuries, in the chapters of the urban collegiates and the cathedral of Coimbra, we try to problematize the value of the food products in the mechanisms of remuneration of ecclesiastical benefices. On the other hand, from the identification of scarce evidences, we would reflect about the slow abandon of commensality practices within secular clergy of Coimbra. This article presents an attachment which includes the edition of one statute from the end of 15th century, about the habit of the dinners, in the collegiate of Santiago of Coimbra.
