| pt |
dc.description.abstract | Asthma is a chronic inflammatory disease that affects about 235 million people worldwide. The pathophysiology of asthma involves a complex cascade of cellular and molecular events, not yet fully understood, involving different types of cells and inflammatory mediators. The asthma attack is triggered by different factors, including host and environmental factors. There are three main approaches to treat asthma: suppression of the causal factor (prevention of exposure to triggers); anti-inflammatory therapeutic strategies and bronchodilator therapy. The prevention and control of asthma are extremely important because they avoid crises with high probability of progression to severe pathological conditions, while enabling better patient quality of life. While there is much information available about this disease, it is of utmost importance the development and dissemination of knowledge because there are many patients with uncontrolled asthma. | pt |
