Estranha epígrafe no concelho de Tabuaço

Abstract

A epígrafe gravada sobre uma pretensa sepultura na capela de Santo António, em Arcos (Tabuaço), chegou a ser apresentada como estando redigida em hebraico. O estudo que ora se apresenta mostra que se trata, ao invés, de um bem curioso texto em latim, com erros de compreensão da minuta, em que o suposto defunto recorda ao «amigo» que o leia que é no Além que a Verdade se conhece. Indicam-se textos do século XVII em que surgem expressões idênticas às que na pedra foram lavradas.

On this essay is presented the text of a Latin – not Hebraic – inscription of a chapel in Tabuaço, district of Viseu, at the Centre of Portugal. The supposed defunct says to his Friend (the lector!) that only after the dead we can know all the Verity! The erudite caracter of the text is documented by another texts found in XVII century’ books.
