Sobre a ética (e a política) da investigação social em saúde

Abstract

Neste artigo é discutida a evolução recente da ética e da sua codificação em áreas de investigação envolvendo sujeitos humanos. É abordada, em particular, a forma como o modelo da protecção dos sujeitos envolvidos na investigação biomédica tende a ser apresentado como modelo para todas as formas de investigação envolvendo sujeitos humanos, assim como os debates que tem suscitado. A seguir, são apresentados alguns dos dilemas e desafios que a investigação em saúde suscita aos cientistas sociais, e o modo como elas amplificam as dificuldades em transferir o modelo ético da investigação biomédica para as ciências sociais. Nas secções finais, são sugeridas algumas pistas para a identificação de novos desafios éticos à investigação social em saúde e para a formulação de uma ética situada e processual.

This paper discusses the recent evolution of ethics and its codification in research areas involving human subjects. Some of the main issues addressed in the paper are the way the model for the protection of subjects participating in biomedical research is tendentially regarded as a model for all forms of research involving human subjects, and the debates it has raised. This is followed by a discussion of some of the dilemmas and challenges faced by social scientists working in the field of health, and the way they broaden the difficulties in transferring the approach to ethics of biomedical research to the social sciences. The later sections suggest some directions for the identification of new ethical challenges to social research on health and for the formulation of a situated and procedural ethics.
