Alimentos geneticamente modificados

Abstract

A manipulação do material genético dos alimentos permite obter produtos que de forma natural não existiriam, ultrapassando a barreira entre espécies. Atualmente existe um conjunto de informações diferentes disponíveis acerca dos impactos dos organismos geneticamente modificados (OGM) na sociedade. De um lado estão os defensores da manipulação genética de alimentos devido à sua elevada produtividade e de outro estão os defensores da agricultura orgânica com preocupações ambientais e sociais. Através de uma revisão da literatura científica recente, esta monografia tem como objetivo descrever os principais factos científicos e informações relevantes sobre o tema, a fim de fomentar o debate.

The manipulation of the genetic material of food allows us to get products that would not exist in the Nature, overcoming the species barrier. Nowadays there are a lot of different informations about the consequences of genetically modified organisms on our society. On one hand, there are the defenders of the genetic manipulation of food due to their high productivity, on the other hand there are the defenders of organic agriculture based on environmental and social worries. Through a revision of recent literature, this monograph aims to describe the main scientific facts and relevant informations about the topic, in order to foster the debate.
