dc.description.abstract | A Diabetes Mellitus (DM) é uma doença metabólica caracterizada pelo aumento da glicose sanguínea (hiperglicémia). Considerada por alguns como uma pandemia do século XXI, pelas complicações e mortalidade associadas, é de facto um problema à escala mundial, tornando esta patologia um enorme desafio para os sistemas de saúde. A predisposição genética, e o aumento da esperança média de vida da população, aliados à adoção de um estilo de vida pouco saudável, parecem ser os fatores que têm vindo a promover o aumento da sua prevalência e incidência. Na presente monografia, pretende dar-se a conhecer esta doença, bem como as principais medidas farmacológicas e não-farmacológicas que a contrariam e permitem uma vida o mais longa e saudável possível. Inicialmente será identificada a sua prevalência, passando depois aos tipos da diabetes, complicações, métodos de diagnóstico e tratamentos disponíveis. Por fim serão discutidos os resultados sobre alguns doentes diabéticos que foram alvo de um questionário realizado durante o estágio curricular na Farmácia Cruz Viegas. | pt |
dc.description.abstract | The Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a metabolic disorder characterized by increased blood glucose (hyperglycemia). Considered to be a pandemic of the century by the complications and mortality it is indeed a problem on a global scale making this disease a major challenge for health systems. The genetic predisposition, and increasing life expectancy of the population coupled with the adoption of an unhealthy lifestyle appear to be the factors that has promoted the increase of its prevalence and incidence. In this monograph is intended to present this disease as well as the main pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments that delay complications and allow a life as long and healthy as possible. Initially its prevalence is identified then the kinds of diabetes complications the diagnostic methods and the available treatments. Finally the results of some diabetic patients who were subjected to a questionnaire during the curricular traineeship in pharmacy Cruz Viegas will be discussed. | pt |
