A presença islâmica no Alentejo Litoral. Uma abordagem à luz da toponímia

Abstract

[PT] mSem nunca ter conhecido uma unidade do ponto de vista administrativo durante a ocupação muçulmana do Ġarb al-Ândalus, certo é que a presença islâmica não deixou de se manifestar, até aos dias de hoje, na toponímia do território a que hoje chamamos Alentejo Litoral. Desde os topónimos mais conhecidos, por serem sedes de município, como Alcácer, Cacém ou Odemira, a outros relativamente mais obscuros, e apenas detectáveis com base na análise mais cuidada da micro-toponímia, subsistem ainda vestígios de uma ocupação que, do ponto de vista histórico, fica desde logo atestada pela presença na região das famílias berberes dos banū Dānis e dos banū Qāsim. Será, pois, nosso propósito neste trabalho, com base na análise de algumas fontes, observar a presença muçulmana na área através da persistência de alguns topónimos de origem árabe e/ou berbere.

[EN] Never having achieved any sort of unity, from an administrative standpoint, during the Muslim occupation of Ġarb al-Ândalus, it is beyond any doubt that the Islamic presence has reached up to day in the toponymy of the territory that we nowadays call Alentejo Litoral. From the more familiar names, such as the municipal seats of Alcácer, Cacém and Odemira, to others relatively more obscure, only detectable through a more careful analysis of microtoponymy, there are still traces of an occupation that, from an historical perspective, is evidenced by the presence in the region of the Berber families of the banū Dānis and the banū Qāsim. Therefore, it is our purpose in this paper, based on the analysis of some sources, to observe the Muslim presence in the area through the persistence of some Arabic and Berber-origin toponyms.
