The study aims at considering some topics of religious power by the entries of the bishops to take possession of their dioceses, based on new documents and a iconological reader of some visual examples. Organized with renewed splendor between the second half of the 16th century and the first half of the 18th century, the ceremonies of adventus novi episcopi constituted a significant moment of political and socio-cultural encounter that marked the history of Portugal and the territories of Portuguese America in the post-tridentine period, as well as the Catholic world. In addition to symbolic gestures and itineraries developed following the path by land, also what happened during the crossing of the Atlantic Ocean could be a step that, significantly, contributed to define the munus of neo-consecrated, anticipating and differentiating their service as Empire bishops.por
