A gaguez como dificuldade de inscrição no mundo

Abstract

O objetivo neste capítulo não é mostrar experiências de discriminação na gaguez para dar conta das estruturas de opressão social, mas, sim, dar conta da experiência da gaguez pelas pessoas em Portugal e da gestão da sua ocultação no seu quotidiano comunicativo. Irá analisar-se como a gestão social de uma identidade — em perigo devido à constante busca da ocultação da gaguez perante uma estrutura normativa da fala que define quem gagueja como malfalante — é incorporada na pessoa e no seu projeto de vida, criando uma dificuldade de inscrição da pessoa no mundo social e um sentimento de angústia e sofrimento existencial. Através de relatos e testemunhos cedidos em entrevistas e recolhidos em fóruns online, produziu-se uma cartografia da gaguez enquanto território experiencial e existencial.

The objective of this chapter is not to discuss experiences of discrimination in stuttering in order to account for structures of social oppression, but to account for the experience of stuttering and management of its concealment in everyday communication by people in Portugal. It will be analyzed how the social management of an iidentity — endangered by the constant need for concealment of stuttering due to a normative social structure that defines stutterers as bad speakers — is incorporated by the person and in her life project, generating a difficulty for the person’s inscription in the social world and a feeling of anguish and existential suffering. Based on stories and statements collected through interviews and online forums, this chapter offers a cartography of stuttering as an experiential and existential territory.
