Abstract: On the Tarzout river in Algeria, an embankment dam, “Tazout”, with a spillway made of classic hydrotechnical concrete, is being designed. - Carry out calculations for the general stability of the ‘Piano Key’-type spillway. - Determine the distribution of stress in the body of the dam. - Carry out the calculations and design of the wall of the stilling basin taking into consideration the effects of earthquake and the dynamic pressure of water. - Use the Finite element method and the software package, “Tower”. The work should contain: - Technical report - Calculations for general stability - Seismic calculations - Calculations for stress distribution - Comparison of results - Calculations and design of the wall of the stilling basin - Dispositions and characteristic sections - Bill of quantities The candidate shall use topological, geological, geomechanical and hydrological maps, prepared for use in the Tarzout dam project by the firm, “Energoprojekt Hidroinzenjering”.
